The Poole store of South Coast Building Supplies (SCBS) features a trapezoidal sheet roof with few obstructions like air vents. The store experiences high customer footfall, with peak energy demand occurring on weekdays between 7:30 am and 5:30 pm.

SCBS operates four stores located in the South of England and approached Absolar through our partnership with the NatWest Group. Seeking energy and cost-saving solutions, SCBS wanted to explore solar options. Absolar conducted Remote Solar Surveys for two of their stores in Poole and Andover, both found suitable for PV installation.

The Poole store features 162 Tier-1 415W JA solar panels and 2 x 30kW Solis inverters. The system is designed after analysing the half-hourly energy consumption data of the store and is an energy optimsed approach, rather than simply covering the roof. This approach maximised cost savings and shortened the payback period.

  • Energy Saving: The first-year annual production of the PV system is projected to be 68,300 kWh which will cover 67% of the annual energy demand of the property.

  • Payback: Designing the optimsed PV system for maximum energy efficiency shortened the payback period to 3 years and 9 months.

  • Project management: The project was managed by a dedicated project manager to ensure that no obstruction was caused to the day-to-day operations of the property and to the customers visiting the store.

The business saw a saving of £1,700 in electricity costs at one branch in the first month the panels were installed, and now he’s looking to fit panels in a third location.’’
