Commercial Solar for Laboratory & Research

The work is taking place at Gamma House, where a conventional diesel-run backup power generator is to be replaced with a significantly more sustainable solution that cleverly integrates on-site solar generation, battery storage and grid connectivity.

Back-up power is essential for all business continuity, yet projects of this nature remain relatively uncommon due to their technical complexity and the investment required to deliver effective systems that meet both operational requirements and wider ESG objectives. This complex project has only been made possible through deep collaborative work with experts in renewables, data science, IT and physical infrastructure.

2 Venture Road is situated in the University of Southampton Science Park and is a two-floor, multi-tenanted property with a standing seam Kalzip roof. The property experiences high energy consumption during office hours due to the research labs and offices situated inside the building.

The two-storey office building locates in a densely populated area at Winchester city centre, bringing engineering challenges to this project including logistics and scaffolding access - both were closely managed by Absolar's project management team. The building has a slate roof, and the client has chosen to install an in-roof solar system, integrating solar panels into the roof with an aesthetic appearance.

The Engineering Centre is a newly constructed property located in the University of Southampton Science Park which serves as a home for various innovative companies and innovation hub for University of Southampton.
