Last week, Dr Phil Wu, Director of Absolar, was invited to the official opening of the SMART Centre at Solent University, a new practice-led training and innovation facility focused on IoT, smart technologies and applied industry skills.
The opening was marked by a royal visit from Her Royal Highness The Royal Princess, who formally inaugurated the centre and met with representatives from industry, education and local innovation-led businesses.

Dr Phil Wu had the honour of meeting HRH during the visit and sharing the journey of Absolar, from early projects through to the company’s ongoing work at the intersection of solar engineering, data and applied technology.

The SMART Centre has been designed to strengthen collaboration between universities and industry, helping students gain hands-on experience with real-world technologies while supporting regional innovation.
Its focus on connected systems, data and practical application closely aligns with Absolar’s own approach to commercial solar, where engineering decisions are informed by measured performance and ongoing system intelligence.

Absolar welcomes initiatives that bridge education and industry, and it was a privilege to be part of an event that highlights the growing role of applied technology in building more resilient, energy-aware infrastructure across the UK.
