Absolar Delivers Solar, Battery and Smart Energy System to Power Critical Security Infrastructure

March 12, 2026

📍 Lydd, Kent - Absolar has completed a fully integrated solar, battery and smart energy system for Robowatch, a provider of remote security and monitoring solutions, significantly reducing electricity costs while strengthening energy resilience for its operations.

The installation combines rooftop solar generation, advanced battery storage and intelligent energy management to ensure that Robowatch’s monitoring systems remain operational even during grid outages.

For businesses operating critical infrastructure, power reliability is essential. The new system allows Robowatch to reduce its reliance on the grid while maintaining continuous energy availability.

Solar Power Now Supplies the Majority of Site Energy

The project includes a 42.78 kWp rooftop solar PV system paired with 54.24 kWh of Sigenergy SigenStor battery storage, delivering an estimated 39,925 kWh of electricity each year.

As a result, 63% of the site's energy demand is now supplied directly by solar generation, significantly lowering reliance on grid electricity.

The system is also expected to reduce Robowatch’s electricity bills by 48%, providing a strong commercial return while protecting the business from future electricity price volatility.

Surplus energy generated during peak solar periods is being configured for export, creating an additional revenue stream.

Building Energy Resilience for Critical Operations

Unlike conventional solar installations, the project was designed with operational resilience as a primary objective.

Robowatch’s monitoring services require uninterrupted power to maintain security coverage. The energy system therefore integrates solar generation, battery storage and an onsite backup generator into a coordinated architecture.

During normal operation, solar generation powers the site and charges the battery. When demand increases or the grid fails, the battery automatically supplies power. The generator only activates when necessary.

This layered approach allows the system to:

  • Maintain continuous power supply during grid outages
  • Operate in island mode, independent from the grid
  • Reduce generator runtime and fuel consumption
  • Extend generator lifespan by avoiding unnecessary start cycles

The result is a resilient energy infrastructure capable of supporting mission-critical monitoring operations.

The whole process from the initial enquiry, to the survey & quote and then the installation was faultless. The installation team were exceptional and the aftercare has been fantastic.

Turning Solar into an Actively Managed Energy Asset

At the centre of the system is the Sigenergy Gateway, which provides remote monitoring and intelligent control over how energy flows across the site.

This enables:

  • Active battery optimisation
  • Peak demand reduction through battery discharge
  • Real-time monitoring of generation and consumption
  • Flexible operating modes prioritising backup power or grid optimisation

Instead of operating as a static solar installation, the system functions as an actively managed energy asset, dynamically balancing generation, storage and demand.

Engineering Challenges Solved Before Installation

During the initial site survey, Absolar identified cut-edge corrosion on sections of the existing roof.

Installing a solar system on a roof expected to last more than 25 years requires the underlying structure to meet the same lifespan.

Before the solar installation began, Absolar’s roofing team carried out full remedial works to treat and protect the affected areas, ensuring the roof's durability aligns with the operational life of the solar system.

This preventative work protects both the building and the long-term performance of the energy system.

Installation Delivered Without Disrupting Operations

Because Robowatch provides live monitoring services, maintaining continuous power during installation was critical.

Absolar coordinated the installation around carefully planned commissioning stages, ensuring backup power was always available. Generator support was maintained throughout the process, allowing the system to be installed and commissioned without interrupting operations.

Clean Energy for Mission-Critical Infrastructure

The project demonstrates how solar and battery systems can support businesses where reliability is as important as sustainability.

By integrating generation, storage and intelligent energy control, Robowatch now benefits from:

  • Lower operating costs
  • Greater energy independence
  • Increased resilience against grid outages
  • Reduced carbon emissions
  • Improved ESG performance

For organisations operating critical infrastructure, the combination of solar generation and smart energy management provides a practical pathway to both energy security and decarbonisation.
