In a major step towards urban sustainability, the A P Loveridge Trading Estate - located next to Southampton Central Station - has partnered with Absolar to install solar panels across six commercial buildings, helping to cut energy bills and carbon emissions for its diverse community of local businesses.
The project was inspired by the successful Draper Tools installation. With rising costs and a growing commitment to sustainable operations, the estate’s managers approached Absolar to explore similar solutions. The result: a high-performance solar PV system, set to deliver both financial and environmental benefits from day one.
With Southampton recently experiencing record-breaking sunshine during the summer heatwave, the new system is already converting solar energy into tangible savings.
While many businesses are scrambling to cope with rising temperatures and energy costs, this site is now reaping the rewards of forward planning. It’s a great example of how solar energy delivers both environmental and financial value, especially during extreme weather.
--- Akash Yadav, Senior Project Co-ordinator at Absolar
Spanning multiple rooftops and metering points, the project demanded careful coordination to optimise returns and minimise disruption for tenants. In addition to high-quality installation, tenants benefit from Absolar’s advanced solar monitoring platform, which tracks forecast vs. actual generation in real time to keep performance at its peak.
This installation brings Absolar’s total installed solar capacity in Southampton to over 3 MW, with projects across Hampshire continuing to grow. As urban estates, farms, offices, and logistics hubs look for smarter energy solutions, Absolar’s approach is helping property owners unlock the full potential of their rooftops — supported by intelligent design, local expertise, and AI-powered performance monitoring.
Absolar’s team combines advanced remote surveying with meticulous project planning and stakeholder coordination - a critical factor in delivering safe, cost-effective installations at scale.
As this project progresses, we’ll continue to share updates and outcomes; and showcase how clean energy can work hand-in-hand with thoughtful design, safety, and long-term value for businesses and communities.
