Installing commercial solar panels in Hampshire isn’t just a smart environmental decision - it’s a powerful financial and strategic investment for your business. Here are the top five reasons why more commercial property owners in Hampshire are making the switch to solar:
Hampshire benefits from some of the highest solar radiation levels in the UK, making it an ideal location for solar energy generation. By installing rooftop solar panels, commercial buildings can drastically reduce their electricity consumption from the grid and lower monthly energy bills. For Hampshire's commercial buildings, you can request a free solar survey here.
Using representative market values in Hampshire, a typical commercial solar project delivers >30% Internal Rate of Return (IRR), with an average payback period of less than 4 years. With a lifespan of 30+ years, solar offers long-term energy price stability and strong financial performance.
Solar PV systems are considered a capital improvement that can significantly enhance the value of commercial properties. With access to asset-based finance through Absolar's Finance Partners, Hampshire-based property owners can unlock renewable energy solutions without upfront capital, helping to maintain healthy cashflow while upgrading the property's sustainability credentials.
When your solar system generates more power than your building consumes, Absolar enables your business to export the excess electricity back to the grid. By selling surplus energy to certified suppliers, you create a new income stream while supporting the UK's transition to cleaner energy.
More businesses in Hampshire are taking leadership roles in climate action. Installing commercial solar panels is one of the most effective ways to cut carbon emissions, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and demonstrate your commitment to sustainability. Solar helps your organisation meet ESG targets and progress towards Net Zero.
Not really, and that's worth saying plainly rather than smoothing over. Hampshire spans dense Solent coastal cities, a National Park, a historic cathedral city, rural market towns and modern corporate business parks, and each has a different profile for solar. What holds true everywhere is that Hampshire's general solar irradiance is solid for the UK, and a specific building's roof, orientation, shading and consumption pattern matter far more than which part of the county it sits in.
We're based at the University of Southampton Science Park, in the middle of the county, and Hampshire is where we've done the bulk of our project work to date, including the Science Park's own campus programme and installations for local businesses such as Draper Tools. That gives us direct, on-the-ground familiarity with the county's planning authorities, grid conditions and building stock, rather than treating Hampshire the same as anywhere else on a map.
The Solent corridor, taking in Southampton, Portsmouth, Fareham, Gosport and Havant, has the county's densest concentration of commercial and industrial roof stock. Basingstoke adds a strong cluster of large office and corporate campuses in the north east, while Winchester and the market towns sit somewhere in between, with historic centres to work around alongside genuine business park potential. The New Forest and more rural parts of the county have real opportunities too, but with National Park planning constraints and more variable grid capacity to account for.
To some extent, yes. Hampshire includes all or part of two National Parks, the New Forest and the South Downs, plus conservation areas around historic centres like Winchester. Together these cover a meaningful share of the county's land area, so checking a specific site's position relative to these boundaries is one of the first things we do, rather than assuming a Hampshire postcode is automatically unconstrained or automatically restricted.
It varies significantly by area and even by substation, which is normal for a county this size and this mixed in land use. Established business parks and industrial estates generally have clearer capacity than rural connections or areas near recent significant new development. We submit the DNO application early in every project, regardless of where in Hampshire the site sits, to establish the real position before you commit to a system size.
Hampshire is our home county and where most of our project history sits, but our assessment process is remote from the outset and works the same way regardless of location, so we cover businesses well beyond Hampshire too, including the wider South of England and further afield.
Request a free remote solar survey. We will model your specific roof using LiDAR data, flag any local planning considerations, and send a costed report within 2 working days, with no site visit or obligation needed to get started.

At Absolar, engineering is at the heart of everything we do. Our commitment to quality starts with a bespoke solar survey, which is a detailed assessment of your building, evaluating the engineering feasibility, and providing a customised design for the solar energy system. The process is consist of data analysis of the building's energy demand, roof structure, orientation, roof material, and shading simulations. The bespoke solar survey is to ensure the system design is suitable for both the roof structure and your energy requirements.
For any commercial solar project in Hampshire, our in-house engineering team brings together decades of experience across electrical, structural, and renewable energy disciplines. This expertise allows us to anticipate and solve challenges before they become problems, giving our clients complete confidence throughout the project lifecycle. From feasibility studies to final commissioning, we operate with a no-nonsense mentality - clear communication, sound decisions, and no surprises.
We believe that true engineering excellence lies not just in technical skill, but in accountability. That’s why we stand behind our work, with robust quality assurance processes, performance monitoring, and post-installation support. Whether it’s a rooftop array on a logistics centre or a ground-mounted system for a manufacturing facility, our clients trust us to deliver solutions that perform, year after year.
